However, the 2023 Wagoneer has one big drawback that conflicts with its many great features. The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer is lacking when it comes to being reliable, but there are other reasons it’s called the best large SUV.
The best large SUV isn’t reliable
U. S. News ranked the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer as the best large SUV out of seven. The Wagoneer earns this ranking for many reasons, but the SUV isn’t considered one of the most reliable options. In fact, the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer has a predicted reliability score of 65 out of 100 from J. D. Power. Most of the other best large SUVs from the list outrank it for this category.
Though there are worse scores for large SUVs, a 65 only represents a vehicle considered fair in the category. Unfortunately, there are several problems associated with this best large SUV. Some of its issues are safety concerns, whereas others make ownership inconvenient. After all, this is the first generation of the Jeep Wagoneer, meaning it’s bound to be plagued by issues.
Common Jeep Wagoneer problems
Though the new Jeep Wagoneer is already problematic, its low predicted reliability score comes from issues with the 2022 model. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer has numerous problems with the electrical system. For instance, there are issues with the forward collision avoidance system, faulty error messages, and key fobs that tend to malfunction. There have also been reports of things like the vehicle losing power, the heater system not working properly, and batteries going out despite being new.
There are also steering problems with the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer. Essentially, the power steering goes out without any warning. People have also said that it is hard to steer the Wagoneer and that the rear wheels sometimes won’t turn. This issue can be fixed with a system update and by changing the rear differential fluid. Despite these issues, there are other reasons it’s considered the best large SUV.
More reliable best large SUVs besides the Jeep Wagoneer
Another of the best large SUVs for the year is the 2023 Toyota Sequoia. The 2023 Sequoia is a well-trusted full-size SUV that has been around for quite some time. It has a 3.5 out of 5 reliability score, representing average reliability. Of course, there are large SUVs with higher scores, but the 2023 Sequoia is an option many people go for and have very few problems. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia has many of the same features as the Jeep SUV. However, many people feel this should be the best large SUV.
Another best large SUV from the list with higher reliability scores than the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer is the 2023 Ford Expedition. The 2023 Expedition has a 3 out of 5 rating from the category, representing average reliability. Again, it’s not a perfect score, but the 2023 Ford Expedition has very few major problems. Overall, it’s a vehicle that people tend to trust, partly because the 2023 Expedition follows several excellent model years. Like the 2023 Sequoia, it compares to the Wagoneer in many ways despite the Jeep not being as well regarded.
