1 SUV Nissan Should Bring Back and 1 That Should Stay In the Trash
Nissan is one of those automakers that has a ton of vehicles the car-buying public wishes would return to production. One such example is the Xterra, as there have been several calls for a new version of the boxy off-roading SUV. People like it because it has a dynamic design that could still be successful today. However, a Nissan SUV where the opposite is true is the Murano CrossCabriolet. While not a bad vehicle, it has too unique of a look to gain real traction in an overcrowded market.
Here’s a look into both and why one would work today, whereas the other would probably be a short-lived reboot that no one asked for.
The Nissan Xterra has what it takes to be a success in 2023
The Nissan Xterra has what it takes to be one of the best off-roading SUVs on the market today. This is the case because it has that boxy design that’s popular in SUVs today and that works well in all driving situations. People who want the vehicle for general everyday driving would also not be disappointed as the now-discontinued Nissan Xterra has always been an attractive SUV that stood out.
Additionally, this is an SUV that would work in 2023 because there is already a precedent for it being successful. We say this because one of the main reasons Nissan discontinued the off-roading SUV was its poor fuel economy.
However, we’ve seen quite a few other V6 SUVs these days achieve awesome fuel economy, eliminating one of the problems with a vehicle of this type. Nissan could easily make a hybrid or all-electric version of the Xterra that retained its off-roading chops while also being modern.
Keep the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet in the trash
While a new Nissan Xterra could be among the best off-roading SUVs, the Murano CrossCabriolet should remain in the trash. This vehicle deserves respect for being ambitious, but that simply wouldn’t work today. While some buyers crave unique vehicles, this one is too different for the masses. In fact, most would probably say there was never a reason for it to exist and that it should have remained on the drawing board.
Additionally, the Murano CrossCabriolet never gained enough of a reputation to warrant the automaker bringing it back. Perhaps it had a small niche following, but that’s not enough to compete with other rebooted vehicles, such as the Ford Bronco or the Chevy Blazer. Overall, this vehicle design belongs in the used vehicle market with the Chevrolet SSR.
Are there any discontinued Nissan models you’d want to see?
Being a long-running automaker, Nissan has discontinued quite a few vehicles. Though not all of them would be successful today, like the Nissan Xterra, some would absolutely fit. The Nissan Juke is one that some car fans would like to see return to the market.
The Juke had its problems while in production, but it still has enough of a name where some alterations could make it popular. The Quest is another one that some would like to see a new version of.
Nissan is one of the most versatile automakers on the market. It doesn’t always get the respect it deserves, but Nissan has some incredible vehicles. Besides the Xterra, what are some discontinued Nissan models you’d like to see return.
