2 of the Worst Chevrolet Cars Aren’t That Bad
Chevrolet has made some of the best cars in automotive history. However, just like all other automakers, Chevy has made some mistakes along the way. While any company should be applauded for taking big swings, these two vehicles were also giant misses in the minds of most. One is the Chevrolet HHR, and the other is the SSR.
Here’s a look into two vehicles Chevrolet wants you to forget.
The Chevrolet HHR is among the worst Chevrolet cars
One of the worst Chevrolet cars is the HHR. The wagon first entered the market for the 2005 model year and actually became quite popular. Sure, its sales never quite matched more mainstream looking options, but it did pretty well in the beginning.
Unfortunately, the 2011 Chevrolet HHR was the final model, which means it had a pretty short run on the market. The HHR peaked in sales in 2007 with about 105,175 units sold. However, it only sold 37,012 during its final year of production.
Despite the decline in sales, this Chevrolet car isn’t all bad. Many people considered it a practical choice at the time as it gets solid fuel economy. However, it’s not suggested that people get a used model.
The Chevrolet SSR is among the worst trucks
Though it didn’t enter the market until the 2003 model year, the Chevrolet SSR has been around since 2000. The automaker first presented this Chevrolet car at the Detroit Auto Show on New Year’s Eve of that year. Unfortunately, the retro-styled truck didn’t have a long life as it never really caught on. Production ended in 2006 after the automaker produced about 124,166 units.
Weak performance is one of the reasons so many consider this one of the worst Chevrolet cars. According to Edmunds, the 2003 Chevrolet SSR has a 5.3-liter V8 engine that makes 300 horsepower and has a torque of 331 lb-ft. It’s rear-wheel drive and uses a four-speed automatic transmission. Regarding speed, it takes the first Chevrolet SSR about 7.9 seconds to get from 0 to 60 miles per hour.
People complained about the performance of the Chevrolet SSR, so the automaker upgraded the engine. This change came for the 2005 model year, as it has a 395 HP 6.0-liter V8 that has a torque of 400 lb-ft. The upgraded version only needs 5.5 seconds to get from 0 to 60 miles per hour. Still, it was too late for this retro Chevrolet car.
The Chevrolet SSR is an overall reliable vehicle. However, not many people could get behind the retro pickup truck style. Still, it’s commendable that Chevy gave this unique vehicle a chance. Chevrolet has produced many cars since the SSR and the HHR but these are experiments the automaker may never try again.
