Test driving a vehicle before buying it is paramount in the car world. This is apparent in a recent viral story of a person trading in a 2023 GMC Yukon for a used Chevy Suburban. The kicker is that the owner got almost $30k back. Of course, both are among the top SUVs in their segment, but the internet has divided opinions on why there’s such a price difference between the two.

The owner traded in the 2023 GMC Yukon without even looking at the used Chevy Suburban

Recently, a TikTok user who posts to the platform under the name of Ash (@ashxautos) shared an interesting story. A lady had come in and expressed interest in a 2018 Chevy Suburban. However, she had no interest in looking at or test-driving the car. The TikTok user was also surprised by the fact that the lady wanted to trade down from her 2023 GMC Yukon.

As mentioned, these are among the top SUVs in the large category, but the situation was still odd. This is partially because the lady’s 2023 GMC Yukon had only 27,000 miles on the odometer. As for the used Chevy Suburban, it had a whopping 96,000. Of course, the salesperson went through with the deal. The lady walked away with an almost $30k check.

The lady soon realized her mistake despite getting such a large amount for her trade-in. As mentioned, she elected not to test drive the used Chevy Suburban. However, she reached out to the salesperson and stated that she didn’t like how the SUV drove. The lady then asked if she could have her 2023 GMC Yukon back. In the end, she and her husband bought back the Yukon.

Daily Dot reached out to the car dealer and got a reason why the lady wanted to trade down. Apparently, her daughter had begun to drive, and she didn’t want to give her such an expensive vehicle. Not only were people online baffled by the $30k trade-in value, but it demonstrates the importance of test driving.

Readers should note that the 2023 GMC Yukon owner had paid cash for the car. The car dealer wasn’t specific about the trims of the SUVs. However, she thinks the Yukon may have been a Duramax. Of course, there is a notable price difference between the used Chevy Suburban and the Yukon. However, a customer walking away with almost $30k is still surprising.
