The 2024 Ford Edge Can’t Beat Average
The 2024 Ford Edge will be the final model in the vehicle’s lineup. Unfortunately, it’s not going out on the best note. Sure, the SUV still sells, which means some may consider this to be among the best midsize SUVs. However, it hasn’t truly been great for a while. Not only does it have a bland look, but it has only average ratings across the board. Sadly, the same is true for the 2023 Ford Edge.
Here’s why the 2024 Ford Edge can’t beat average.
The 2024 Ford Edge isn’t one of the best midsize SUVs in any significant way
The 2024 Ford Edge is by no means a bad SUV. However, it doesn’t really do anything exceptionally well. For starters, the new Ford Edge only has a 72 out of 100 for resale value. Like all its other scores, J.D. Power considers this ‘average,’ which is perfectly fine, but it also means that buyers won’t get as much money back for the Ford Edge as some of its more respected competitors.
The 2024 Ford Edge fairs a little better when it comes to reliability. It has an 80 out of 100 from the marketing research firm, which is also ‘average.’ Though not the greatest, this provides a decent bit of confidence in buyers as they know they can trust the Ford Edge. However, it’s not even one of the best midsize SUVs in this area.
The new Ford Edge is also only average when it comes to performance. It comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine that makes 250 horsepower. Its torque is 280 lb-ft, and this is an all-wheel drive SUV that uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, the ST trim uses a 335-horsepower turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 that has the same torque as the lower levels.
This wouldn’t be all that bad on its own. The problem is that the 2024 Ford Edge has what many would call less than average fuel economy for an SUV that uses a four cylinder. The base engine gets 21 miles per gallon in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. However, the V6 only averages 19 MPG and 25 MPG, respectively. This 2023 Ford Edge offers similar fuel economy.
Regarding speed, the base engine carries the Edge from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 7.6 seconds. The ST trim does the feat in only about 6.1 seconds. This is actually pretty decent. Unfortunately, the 2024 Ford Edge doesn’t come cheap. It has an MSRP of $38,365. However, the Ford Edge ST starts at $47,205.
Overall, the Ford Edge isn’t a bad SUV by any means. However, there are much better midsize SUVs on the market, many of which cost less.
