The 2024 Ford Explorer and the Nissan Pathfinder are among the best midsize SUVs. However, the Ford SUV is much more popular despite its reliability woes in recent years. This is because it has two things Nissan Pathfinder owners want- – space and performance. The same is true for the 2023 Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder models.

The 2024 Ford Explorer is among the best midsize SUVs for performance

The 2024 Ford Explorer and the Nissan Pathfinder are among the best midsize SUVs for rugged performance. However, the legendary Ford SUV comes out on top. According to Edmunds, it comes standard with a turbocharged 2.3-liter engine with a maximum output of 300 horsepower and a torque of 310 lb-ft. It has rear and AWD configurations and uses a 10-speed transmission.

The 2024 Nissan Pathfinder is a little less powerful with its 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 284 horsepower and has a torque of 259 lb-ft. It uses a nine-speed transmission and has front and 4WD configurations. This powertrain is also its only option, which is also the case with the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder.

Many buyers will appreciate that they get choices with the 2024 Ford Explorer. It also offers a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that makes 400 horsepower with a torque of 415 lb-ft. Regarding speed, the fastest trim only needs 5.3 seconds to get from 0 to 60 miles per hour. The 2023 Ford Explorer grants similar speeds, but the Nissan Pathfinder takes almost seven seconds.

However, the Pathfinder can tow more as it grants up to 6,000 pounds, while the Ford can carry up to 5,600 pounds.

The 2024 Nissan Pathfinder is less spacious

The 2024 Nissan Pathfinder might be one of the best midsize SUVs for how its interior looks. However, the Ford Explorer has a better use of technology and offers more space. They both come standard with an eight-inch touchscreen, but the Pathfinder offers a nine-inch unit on higher trims, whereas the 2024 Ford Explorer has a stellar 10.1-inch vertical screen that buyers can pick.

Regarding interior space, the Nissan grants a little more for passengers in the front. However, the Ford Explorer is much more kind to rear passengers. Of course, buyers might also like the Ford because it offers more cargo storage with its 87.8 cubic feet. The Nissan has 80.5 cubic feet with the seats folded.

Overall, the 2024 Ford Explorer and the Nissan Pathfinder are solid choices. They are also similarly priced as the Ford starts at $36,860, and the Nissan has an MSRP of $36,650.
