The Engine Went Bad in This GMC Sierra After Only 16K Miles
The 2024 GMC Sierra Ultimate Edition is one of the best trucks to buy. This is especially the case for those looking for something luxurious. However, one recently had some pretty severe engine issues and it seems this is a decently widespread problem that auto mechanics have had to deal with.
Here’s what happened.
Some models of the 2024 GMC Sierra may not be among the best trucks to buy
According to Daily Dot, an auto mechanic who posts to TikTok under the name Snakepit (@shelbymaster20) highlighted some issues with the 2024 GMC Sierra Ultimate Edition. When the video starts, viewers can see what many consider one of the best trucks to buy loaded onto a lift.
He then says that the truck only has 16,000 miles on the odometer, and it seems the engine is locked up. After drowning the oil and inspecting it, he notices shards of metal in the dark-colored liquid. Any car person knows the oil he’s showing shouldn’t be coming from a car with so few miles on it.
Many people in the video’s comments were unsurprised. The video didn’t clarify which engine it was, but there is reason to believe it’s the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8. One other mechanic commented on the video and said they have several at their shop awaiting engine replacements.
Another commenter said, “That 6.2L motor used to be a dream. Now, it’s a nightmare. Hundreds of them are locking up before 20k.”
Still, many people with various trims of the 2024 GMC Sierra swear by them. However, it seems many auto mechanics think the more modern 6.2-liter isn’t the best option. The auto mechanic went on to say that he would be tearing down the engine to impact the issue a bit more. However, it can’t be good if he’s finding metal shards in the oil this soon.
