The 2024 Mazda CX-90 Isn’t the Best Family SUV Despite Its Size
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is one of the best SUVs on the market. As is usually the case with Mazda, it delivers solid performance and includes top-of-the-line features. However, this isn’t the best family SUV because it’s lacking in a few key areas. In some ways, the Mazda SUV doesn’t measure up to options like the 2023 or 2024 Hyundai Palisade. Still, it’s an excellent SUV in most regards.
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 isn’t the best family SUV due to size constraints
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is one of the best new SUVs and has much to offer buyers. However, it has a few drawbacks. People with families or other people to carry around typically love 3-row SUVs. The problem is that the size of the CX-90 isn’t as balanced as it needs to be. Sure, the people in the first two rows will be more than fine, but this isn’t the case for the optional back row and cargo area.
Regarding cargo space, according to Edmunds, the 2024 CX-90 has a max of only 74.2 cubic feet. For comparison, the 2024 Hyundai Palisade grants 86.4 cubic feet with the seats folded.
Many seemingly insignificant aspects make an SUV one of the best for a family. These are things such as compartmentalized storage, hooks to hang things, etc. However, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 lacks these things, but the 2023 and 2024 Hyundai Palisade models have them, plus more. In other words, the CX-90 is much more luxurious and less convenient for families.
It’s still a safe SUV
The Mazda CX-90 may not be the best family SUV for interior space and storage, but it excels in other areas. In particular, it is one of the best SUVs for safety. This is proven by the Institute for Highway Safety selecting it as a Top Safety+ pick for the year. For comparison, the 2023 Hyundai Palisade has this distinction, but the 2024 model is only a Top Safety pick.
Of course, this model has all the same basic safety features people expect in a modern-day vehicle. However, its list of advanced features in this area that come standard isn’t as extensive as you’d find on options like the Hyundai Palisade or many other options competing for the best family SUV title. Still, owners can expect to feel secure in the CX-90, even if it’s not the most advanced.
There’s much for people to like about the 2024 Mazda CX-90. However, it seems the design team didn’t fully commit to making it one of the best 3-row family SUVs because it’s lacking in space and storage. Still, it’s a safe option that excels in other ways. It starts at $37,845.
