The 2024 Subaru Impreza debuts the model’s sixth generation, and it’s undergone some notable updates in addition to now solely being offered as a hatchback. It now sports some styling cues from its more performance-oriented stablemate, the WRX, improved tech, and upgraded driver aids. The manual transmission has also been dropped from the lineup, with all models now equipped with a continuously variable transmission.
The 2024 Impreza is available in three trims — base, Sport, and RS — with prices ranging from $24,085 to $28,975, including destination. The Impreza’s pricing stands out as it’s the most affordable hatchback on the market to offer all-wheel drive as standard.
Two engines are available, dependent on trim level. The base and Sport models are motivated by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder delivering 152 horsepower. The RS features a 2.5-liter engine developing 182 hp.
The base model ($24,085) sports 16-inch wheels, adaptive headlights, and roof rails to complement its new look. On the inside, dual 7-inch displays are fitted to the dash with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate control, a four-speaker stereo system, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. Standard driver’s aids include adaptive cruise control, automatic forward emergency braking, and lane-keep assist.
The Impreza Sport commands an additional $2,000. It features a new 11.6-inch center touchscreen in place of the dual-screen setup of the base model, along with a larger driver’s information display, integrated navigation, and Subaru’s Starlink connected services. Additional upgrades include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a six-speaker audio system, keyless entry and push-button start, and premium cloth upholstery. The Sport rides on 18-inch wheels and receives a sportier suspension tuning.
The Impreza RS nameplate has been revived for 2024 and serves as the most powerful and priciest model in the lineup, starting at $28,975. The RS trim includes the more powerful engine, unique dark gray wheels, heated front seats, a wireless charging pad, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated wipers/mirrors.
2024 Subaru Impreza buyers prefer the Sport trim
According to Edmunds, the most popular 2024 Subaru Impreza trim among buyers is the Sport model. Though the Base model has the distinction of being the lowest-cost hatchback on the market with all-wheel drive, many buyers apparently believe the base model is a bit too spartan. Or they could believe $2,000 is worth the price for the Sport’s improved tech, larger touchscreen, and conveniences, like wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, keyless entry, tuned suspension, and other upgrades.
Which Impreza trim do the critics suggest?
Though only three trims are offered for the 2024 Subaru Impreza, there’s no unanimous winner among which model automotive experts believe is best.
Autotrader says the Sport trim seems to be the most economical, apparently agreeing with buyers. Still, the publication states buyers willing to dish out a few grand more for the RS should certainly do so.
Edmunds’ own review suggests the RS trim out of the gate. While it’s the most expensive model, the reviewer writes that it delivers more power and features like heated front seats that just aren’t available in the lower Base or Sport models.
U.S. News also recommends the RS trim, stating the “extra power alone is worth the added cost.”
Car and Driver takes the opposite approach and suggests buyers stick with the base model, noting the Impreza’s bread and butter is offering “a frugal all-wheel drive mode of transportation.”
