Both the 2024 Toyota RAV4 and the Honda HR-V are among the top SUVs for people wanting something small. However, the RAV4 also happens to be much more popular. Not only is it more powerful than its slightly smaller Honda counterpart, but it’s also the more versatile of the two SUVs. The same is true for the 2023 Toyota RAV4 and Honda HR-V.

When people think of the top small SUVs, they often consider the 2024 Toyota RAV4. According to Good Car Bad Car, the Toyota RAV4 sold 163,884 units in 2024 and moved 434,943 in 2023. This difference in popularity between the 2024 Honda HR-V and the Toyota RAV4 exists despite the similar prices. In fact, the HR-V is more affordable as it’s a subcompact SUV, whereas the Toyota is a full-on compact. Regarding price, the RAV4 starts at $28,675, and the Honda HR-V has an MSRP of $25,100. The two also offer a three-year or 36,000-mile basic warranty and five years or 60,000 miles of powertrain coverage.

The RAV4 is among the top SUVs in many regards

The 2024 Toyota RAV4 is one of the top SUVs for performance, which isn’t the case for the Honda HR-V. The Toyota uses a 2.5-liter engine with a maximum output of 203 horsepower and a torque of 184 lb-ft. However, the 2024 Honda HR-V has a 158 HP 2.0-liter with a torque of 138 lb-ft.

Both SUVs offer front and all-wheel drive configurations. However, the Toyota RAV4 uses an eight-speed transmission to deliver power to the wheels, whereas the Honda HR-V has the dreaded continuously variable transmission. Despite being more powerful, the RAV4 is more efficient as it averages a combined 30 miles per gallon. The Honda grants a combined 28 MPG.

Regarding speed, it takes the Toyota about 7.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH, but the Honda needs almost 2 seconds more.

Many buyers also feel that the 2024 Toyota RAV4 has a better interior. Not only is it more spacious, but it has a better use of interior technology. The Toyota has a standard eight-inch touchscreen, but higher trims get a 10.5-inch display. The 2024 Honda HR-V has seven and nine-inch offerings. Naturally, the RAV4 has more cargo space as it grants 69.8 cubic feet, but the Honda offers 55.1 cu. ft.

Overall, both are solid options for people looking for the top small SUVs. However, the RAV4 is much more popular, and for good reason.
