2024 Toyota Sequoia: A Solid Full Size SUV With 1 Significant Problem
The Toyota Sequoia has been on the market for quite a while. Since the beginning, it has served as a solid family car despite some considering it dated in more recent years. Now, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia is on several lists of the best large SUVs. However, the Toyota Sequoia of today isn’t as much of the total package because one thing holds it back. Notably, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia has the same issue.
Here’s what stops the 2024 Sequoia from being truly great.
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia only has an average reliability rating
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia is one of the best large SUVs on the market. Despite this, it doesn’t have the best reliability rating from J.D. Power. In fact, it’s only average at 75 out of 100. This is much lower than most would expect from one of Toyota’s most popular nameplates, even if that popularity has fallen over the years. Luckily, this means buyers can still trust the Sequoia, just not as much as they can other full-size SUVs from other automakers.
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia fairs a bit better in other areas measured by the marketing research firm. Overall, it has a 79 out of 100, which isn’t all that great. Still, it does have an 85 for resale value, which will go a long way for many buyers. It also has an 83 out of 100 for driving experience. Unfortunately, it seems that the one significant shortcoming of the SUV drags down the score. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia has the same score.
This is one of the best large SUVs for power and efficiency
Despite the lower reliability score, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia has quite a bit to offer drivers. This is especially the case when it comes to performance. All trims of the full-size SUV use a turbocharged hybrid 3.5-liter V6 engine with a maximum output of 437 horsepower and a torque of 583 lb-ft. The 2024 Toyota Sequoia has rear and four-wheel drive configurations and uses a 10-speed automatic transmission.
This is a pretty swift SUV. It accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 5.6 seconds. Regarding fuel economy, it averages 21 miles per gallon in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. This may sound low, but the Sequoia is a pretty big vehicle. Buyers should note that the 2023 Toyota Sequoia offers similar performance.
The Sequoia has a solid interior
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia is also one of the best large SUVs for its interior. It seats up to eight people and has an overall length of 208 inches. It’s 78.9 inches wide and 74.5 inches tall. However, buyers should be aware that headroom in the rear rows isn’t the best on the market. A major highlight of the SUV is the interior technology, as most trims have a 14-inch touchscreen.
In spite of its shortcomings, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia is a solid SUV that has much to offer. However, it’s not cheap, as it starts at $61,275.
