The Jeep Compass has been around for a while, but it’s not one of the most common SUVs from the automaker. Unfortunately, this is mainly due to the Compass being on the lower end of small SUVs on the market regarding what it offers. Additionally, the 2023 Jeep Compass continues this trend as it’s considered one of the vehicles in its class that buyers should think twice about. It delivers pretty strong performance, but the latest model Jeep Compass isn’t the most reliable compact SUV.

The Jeep isn’t one of the top SUVs because of reliability

One of the reasons the 2023 Jeep Compass is not one of the top small SUVs is that it doesn’t have the best reliability scores. J. D Power gave the Jeep SUV a 77 out of 100 predicted rating, which isn’t awful, but there are far better options for the price point. Additionally, Consumer Reports claims the latest Jeep Compass will be less reliable than other new vehicles. Though it doesn’t have any serious issues currently, it experiences problems that require a mechanic more than many of its less expensive counterparts.

Though there aren’t any widespread problems with the 2023 Jeep Compass, the recent models have some complaints. For example, 2019-2022 Compass models experience various transmission problems. Additionally, there are complaints against the suspension system and the steering. So, it’s decently likely the 2023 Jeep Compass could experience something similar.

Not fuel efficient

The 2023 Jeep Compass is not one of the best compact SUVs because it lacks great fuel economy. Of course, it’s not the worst SUV in this regard, but it’s not that great for a compact option. The latest model Jeep Compass gets an average of 24 miles per gallon in the city and 32 on the highway. This is good enough for everyday commutes and trips, but far better options exist.

For the sake of comparison, the 2023 Toyota RAV4 is one of the closest rivals to the Compass. However, the Toyota SUV gets an average of 27 miles per gallon in the city and 35 on the highway. While not a drastic difference, it’s still an improvement. This makes the Toyota RAV4 more attractive because it’s also slightly less expensive. Additionally, the latest Ford Escape gets 42 miles per gallon in the city and 36 on the highway.

The interior is nothing to write home about

The interior provides another reason why this isn’t one of the top small SUVs. Though not the worst on the market, there’s nothing special about it. The inside of the 2023 Jeep Compass provides enough room for four adults and has a comfortable rear. However, it’s not as good as some of its lower-priced rivals. Fortunately, the rear has high seat bottoms, making it a much more comfortable experience for backseat riders.

Regarding technology, this small SUV actually shines. According to Car and Driver, it has a standard 8.4-inch display with the option for a 10.1-inch model. Overall, there are worse SUVs on the market. However, the 2023 Jeep Compass isn’t one of the best compact SUVs because it doesn’t offer enough to justify its price. Yes, it has great performance, but it’s not that special of a vehicle. The 2023 Compass starts at $28,400.
