3 SUVs With Sports Car Level Power
Nowadays, SUVs are more than just people movers with additional cargo space. Fortunately, some SUVs on the market feed the need for speed and power. Of course, they are few and far between, but these utility vehicles in question deliver sports car-level potency. Here are three SUVs that are fun to drive and have super low 0 to 60 acceleration times.
The 2023 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is a beyond fast SUV
The 2023 Dodge Durango is a well-liked SUV, but the Durango SRT Hellcat is where the vehicle really shines. This is one of the fastest SUVs on the market and a real head-turner in more ways than one. The Dodge SUV has a supercharged 710 hp 6.2-liter V8 engine under the hood, with a torque of 645 lb-ft. It’s all-wheel drive and uses an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Durango SRT Hellcat accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in an ultra-impressive 3.6 seconds. However, some road tests have the vehicle doing the feat in 3.5 seconds, a minor difference but a difference nonetheless. This is as fast as some of the best sports cars. The other great thing about this powerful beast of an SUV is that it’s still practical. It has great reliability ratings, and it’s also considered safe for families with its four out of five-star ranking in the safety category.
BMW X5 M Competition
The 2024 BMW X5 M Competition is another fast SUV that delivers performance similar to the best sports cars. Like the 2023 model, it has a 4.4-liter V8 engine under its hood with two turbochargers. This model year has a maximum output of 617 hp, which is 17 more horses than the 2023 model. According to Car and Driver, it has an eight-speed automatic transmission and a variable all-wheel drive system, allowing maximum traction or added agility.
This ultra-fast SUV from BMW accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 3.7 seconds. The 2024 BMW X5 M Competition has a top speed of 155, but it’s 177 miles per hour with the M Driver’s Package. Of course, the 2024 model hasn’t been tested, but the 2023 BMW X5 M Competition was awarded a four out of five-star rating from the NHTSA for safety. Overall, the X5 Competition is considered a reliable vehicle.
Jeep Trackhawk
Another of the fastest SUVs hasn’t been produced for the last few model years. However, there hasn’t been a confirmed discontinuation. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, sometimes called the Jeep Trackhawk, is that elusive SUV. The latest model, released in 2021, has a 707 hp 6.2-liter V8 engine. It’s four-wheel drive and uses an eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission. The 2021 Jeep Trackhawk accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.4 seconds.
Luckily, there are no recalls for the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. In addition, the Grand Cherokee itself has an 84 out of 100 reliability score from J.D. Power. The vehicle also has pretty solid safety ratings.
