4 Modern SUVs With Serious Transmission Problems
There are many serious maintenance problems that SUV owners can face. However, a vehicle with a bad transmission is one of the worst. It may not be as bad as all-out premature engine failure, but it ranks highly on the list. There are warning signs of a bad transmission, but there are also a few SUVs that the world knows for having bad ones. Here are four, and spoiler alert, three come from the same automaker.
2013-2014 Nissan Pathfinder has serious transmission problems
Unfortunately, the Nissan Pathfinder has a negative reputation in much of the car world. The vehicle has this distinction because there have been numerous reports of severe transmission problems. While quite a few model years have less than stellar transmissions, the 2013 and 2014 Nissan Pathfinder tend to be the worst for this problem. Of course, these models use the once dreaded continuously variable transmission.
One of the biggest concerns related to the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder and the 2014 model is that the vehicle will lose power while accelerating. This problem is directly related to the transmission. Drivers have said that the problem with the transmission started around 40,000 miles on the odometer. People have also reported that the car shudders and makes weird noises. Of course, this would have been covered under most people’s warranties, but there is no guarantee a used Nissan Pathfinder from these years would have been fixed.
The 2011-2013 Nissan Murano is another Nissan SUV with transmission problems
The Nissan Murano also has some model years with transmission problems. This is true for a few model years. However, the most impacted are the 2011 and 2013 Nissan Murano. In particular, the 2011 Nissan Murano suffered from issues such as loss of power during acceleration, slipping gears, and slower-than-normal acceleration. Of course, the Nissan Murano also uses a CVT.
The 2013 Nissan Murano suffers from transmission problems such as overheating, lurching, and all-out transmission failure. Overall, these problems take away the pleasure of driving the Murano. Sadly, these issues first presented themselves when the vehicle had relatively low mileage on the odometer.
The 2011-2012 Nissan Rogue isn’t much different
The Nissan Rogue is another Nissan SUV with transmission problems. For the most part, they heavily impact the 2011 and 2012 models. According to Vehicle History, the biggest complaint about the 2011 SUV is that its CVT overheats. Additionally, the vehicle shudders and vibrates due to transmission problems.
As for the 2012 Nissan Rogue, there are reports of the vehicle not accelerating, slipping out of gears, and making grinding noises. People consider it one of the worst Nissan Rogue model years from the lineup.
The 2013 Chevy Traverse is the first non-Nissan on the list
Nissan isn’t the only automaker with some severe transmission problems. The 2013 Chevrolet Traverse also suffers in this department. However, it’s not as bad as the other SUVs on this list. One of the biggest complaints is that shifting gears becomes delayed. There are also widespread issues with transmission fluid leaks. Though this isn’t the worst SUV with transmission problems, there are much better options on the used SUV market.
Of course, any vehicle without the proper care can experience transmission problems. However, these SUVs are more prone to failure than many other options. Some of these vehicles are older and, therefore, rare on the road, but people still buy vehicles from 2011 through 2013, so it’s essential to be aware of potential issues.
