Many of the best new cars on the market are all electric. However, this doesn’t mean the majority of car buyers want to take the leap and buy an EV. To help remedy this, Kia has a few affordable all-electric SUVs coming that it hopes will make these more efficient vehicles more mainstream. Now, the company has opened its first plant to produce EVs. Notably, the automaker will produce the Kia EV3 at the plant.

Kia wants to make all-electric cars more mainstream

Kia, owned by Hyundai Motor Group, has plants worldwide. However, according to Electrek, the automaker just opened its first plant that exclusively produces all-electric cars. The new facility is called the EVO plant, and it opened recently in South Korea. Kia’s CEO said, “The completion of the Kia Gwangmyeong EVO Plant marks the first step for Kia to become a leading electric vehicle brand.”

Regarding all-electric cars from Kia, the automaker is already producing the EV3. However, Kia will soon start building its first all-electric sedan, the EV4. Ahead of production, the automaker has called it an “entirely new type of EV sedan.” Of course, both the EV3 and EV4 vehicles will be in production at the new facility.

Kia is taking this big step in all-electric cars partly because it believes its new models will “play a very important role in popularizing electric vehicles.” A Kia representative continued, “We will show you a new history of electric vehicles at the Gwangmyeong EVO Plant.” The new plant will be able to produce 150,000 EVs per year, which is massive for the automaker.
