Ford Gives a New Twist to an Old Nameplate
Ford just announced its new all-electric SUV, a revival of a classic nameplate. Meet the all-new Ford Capri EV, which promises almost boundless range and performance that will make even gearheads blush. However, this new crossover won’t be cheap, which is one reason people are hesitant to invest in even the best EVs.This could become one of the best new cars for EV buyers, but you can’t get it in the states.
The all-new Ford Capri EV could be one of the best all-electric SUVs
Despite a few missteps, Ford has many of the best new cars on the market. However, the automaker recently unveiled the Ford Capri EV, an all-electric SUV. Of course, many people will be familiar with the Capri nameplate, which debuted in 1969 and lasted until 1986. During that time, the Ford Capri became an icon, and the automaker even deemed it “the car you always promised yourself.”
Now, the Ford Capri EV is almost entirely different from the original form of the vehicle. Of course, it’s an all-electric SUV, but it naturally brings with it all the bells and whistles people expect from the best new cars. Regarding performance, Ford says its new all-electric SUV will have rear and all-wheel drive configurations. Its highest range is 620 km, which would be almost 400 miles if the automaker sold it in the U.S. The automaker says the Ford Capri EV will charge from 10 to 80 percent in only 26 minutes with a 185 kW DC fast charger.
This should also be a fast all-electric SUV, as the AWD version only needs 5.3 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour. Regarding interior technology, the new all-electric SUV will feature a 14.6-inch touchscreen with voice activation. It’ll also have standard features such as dual-zone automatic electric temperature control, rain-sensing wipers, advanced driver assistance features, and much more.
Ford has not revealed the price of the new all-electric SUV, but insiders are saying it will be more expensive than the Explorer EV. Hopefully, if sales are high, the automaker will eventually bring it stateside. Ford will build it in Cologne, Germany.
