We trust auto mechanics with our vehicles to repair them or when they need scheduled maintenance. Naturally, this sometimes means they have to drive the cars in order to determine the problem. They may also take it for a spin may to determine if it has been fixed. However, one woman recently took to social media to question why a mechanic drove her car to great lengths when she took it in for repairs.

Should auto mechanics drive your car this much?

According to Daily Dot, a TikTok user who posts with the handle @frenchietopia recently took to the platform with a question. She wanted to know how much auto mechanics need to drive the cars they are working on. This is because she recently took her vehicle in for bodywork and was met with a surprise when she saw how many more miles she had on the odometer.

According to her, “I’m driving, and I’m at a red light, and I’m in shock.” She tells her viewers that her car was in the hands of auto mechanics for bodywork for about ten days. Upon taking the car in, it had about 26,921 miles. However, after getting the car back from the shop, it had 28,879. She says in her video, “Ten days at the body shop, and it has [an] extra 1,000 miles. Why?” More accurately, this is almost 2,000 additional miles.

Naturally, it’s a bit surprising that they would need to drive it as she only took it to the auto mechanic for bodywork, not issues where they’d need to do extensive test driving. She posted an update to ensure people knew she did not make a mistake when calculating the mileage. However, she has no way of proving for legal reasons that they drove the car almost 2,000 miles despite having small pieces of proof.
