Nowadays, even some of the best new cars must be taken to auto mechanics for serious repairs. This has been an ongoing trend, as many vehicles seem less reliable than they once were. Recently, one well-known mechanic took to his social media to highlight five automakers from which he rarely sees cars. Some will be a surprise, while others that made his list won’t. In particular, he has a love for Mazda cars.

Auto mechanics usually know when even the best new cars aren’t great

Drivers rely on auto mechanics to fix their cars. However, these service professionals have their fingers on the pulse regarding the best vehicles for reliability. According to Daily Dot, Yonatan (@yon__atan), a Texas-based auto mechanic, recently took to TikTok to share what he believes to be the five most reliable automakers. He says he sees some brands every day but rarely sees these.

Auto mechanics like Toyota/Lexus

Like many auto mechanics, Yonatan says that Toyota is one of the most reliable brands from which you can buy cars. Of course, he also keeps up with the news, as he acknowledged the recent Toyota recalls. However, he defends the automaker by mentioning how quickly they’ve addressed issues. He also grouped in Lexus, as Toyota owns the luxury automaker. Notably, Lexus was the only luxury car brand in a recent survey of vehicles likely to last 250,000 miles.

Volvo

Some auto mechanics may not agree, but Yonatan also says that he trusts Volvo more than most automakers. Not only does he rarely see these cars, but he especially highlights the warranty the automaker offers for both new and used cars. This level of protection is a reflection of how much the company stands by its cars.

Mazda

Auto mechanics tend to love Mazda vehicles. Because of this, it’s no surprise that this TikToker included the automaker on his list. He goes as far as to say Mazda vehicles are underrated by most buyers. Still, he admits that some models have defective head cylinders.

BMW

Not all auto mechanics will agree with this one, but the TikTok user also added BMW to his list. He says that despite being expensive to maintain, BMW and Mercedes-Benz vehicles are well-engineered cars. However, he notes that they can be a challenge to fix when they break down.

EVs

This one isn’t an automaker. However, like many auto mechanics, this one highlights the reliability of all-electric cars. In particular, he names Tesa, Hyundai, and Kia. However, he does see hybrids come through his shop regularly. He sums it up by saying, “EVs—I don’t see a ton of them.”
