We trust auto mechanics with our cars, which means their opinions on vehicles tend to carry weight. Recently, a mechanic who has a social media following took to his platform to warn car buyers about a Dodge engine they should steer clear of. The engine in question is the Pentastar 3.6 liter, and he goes into detail to explain why buyers should avoid cars that use it.

Here’s why car buyers should avoid the Pentastar 3.6 engine

Dodge has produced some of the best cars in American automotive history. However, not all of its vehicles are stellar, and there could be a significant reason why. According to DailyDot, Victor Shack (@victorshack) recently made a post detailing why the Pentastar 3.6 engine might be the reason. Notably, it seems many other auto mechanics might agree.

In particular, the TikToker says that the Pentastar 3.6 engine has notable issues. Additionally, it’s a complex engine to diagnose. He goes on to explain that due to the design, auto mechanics often have to spend a great deal more time to figure out why they misfire so often. He then says, “If no one can figure it out—probably not even the dealer because they’re not that sophisticated—they’ll just sell you a new engine.”

The problem doesn’t stop there. This TikTok user and other auto mechanics have said that the design also causes issues with the Pentastar 3.6 liter engine. Apparently, the way the automaker built the engine causes the first cylinder rocker to wear out prematurely. This is what often causes the misfiring that is typically associated with this engine.

Notably, the Pentastar 3.6 has some other issues that may stem from its design. These problems include a reduction in power and strange engine noises. People in the comments echoed sentiments similar to those of auto mechanics. It seems many of them have had or do have cars with the engine and regret their purchase. This engine has been used in a number of Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler vehicles.
