The Chevrolet Tahoe is considered one of the best large SUVs on the market. However, in some ways, the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, which is a crossover, might be a better family vehicle. They’re both great, but the Traverse is less expensive than the latest model Chevrolet Tahoe and an overall more comfortable vehicle.
The 2023 Chevrolet Traverse offers comparable performance for a lower price
One of the reasons the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse is a better family vehicle than the Tahoe is its performance. Of course, the Tahoe is more powerful, but the Traverse could be better for people looking for an affordable large SUV. According to Car and Driver, the Traverse has a 310 hp 3.6-liter V6 engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The base model is front-wheel drive.
The Chevrolet Tahoe has a standard 355 hp 5.3-liter V8 engine under its hood at the base level. It’s rear-wheel drive and uses a 10-speed automatic transmission. Of course, people like power, but this added potency might not be worth it to families looking to save money. It should be noted that the highest trim of the Tahoe produces 420 hp, the same as the base model Cadillac Escalade.
The two large SUVs are both fast. The family-friendly Chevrolet Traverse takes only 6.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour. However, the Tahoe is even quicker at 5.9 seconds. Again, most families won’t care about this slightly faster acceleration time.
The Traverse interior is perfect for families
The 2023 Chevrolet Traverse has a perfectly modern and comfortable interior. Regardless of the trim in question, the vehicle has tons of features that help make long road trips exciting for everyone. Though not as spacious as the Tahoe, this is one of the best large SUVs because it offers impeccable cargo storage. It can fit six pieces of carry-on luggage behind the third row. In addition, the Traverse has tons of cubby space.
Of course, the Tahoe offers all of this and more. However, the Traverse is a better value because it has much of the same but for much less money. Additionally, regarding interior appearance, some would say that there isn’t much of a difference between the two. The great thing about the interior technology in the Traverse is that it’s incredibly easy to use and has a wealth of USB ports.
The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe is a harder SUV to drive
For many, this crossover is a better large SUV than the Chevy Tahoe because it’s easier to drive. This is the case because the Traverse, though still big, is at least somewhat smaller than the Tahoe. Its smaller size makes things like backing up and parking much simpler. In fact, there are some buyers who avoid options like the Tahoe and the Escalade for this very reason.
The Chevy Tahoe is easily the more iconic SUV out of the two. It deserves this status, but it’s not for everyone. The Tahoe works fine as a family vehicle, but the Traverse is a cheaper option that is similar to it.
