There’s a new BMW recall over engines that could catch on fire
BMW makes some of the best new luxury cars on the market. However, even the most beloved automakers sometimes have issues. Recently, BMW issued a recall over engine issues that could lead to severe overheating in some conditions. The recall impacts several of the luxury automaker’s most popular nameplates.
There’s a new BMW recall
According to The Hill, there is a new BMW recall that impacts about 105,588 vehicles. The impacted vehicles have engine defects that could cause them to overheat. However, in some severe cases, this engine defect could cause a fire. Regarding the engine problems, the defect sometimes causes the vehicles to have issues starting.
The problem is that “excessively long starting attempts” can cause the impacted engines to overheat. Of the 105,558 BMW vehicles affected by the recall, it is estimated that the problem exists in about one percent. Of course, fires in the affected vehicles will be rare, but owners should be cautious. The issues can be especially dangerous in enclosed spaces. Until the automaker is able to fix the problem, it’s best not to try repeatedly to start one of the listed vehicles.
Vehicle owners impacted by the BMW recall can expect a letter around September 23rd with instructions for getting the defect fixed. It is expected that the fix will come in the form of a software update.
The recall is for many of the best luxury cars, including the following:
- 2019-2020 BMW X5 and X7
- 2020 X6
- 2020 3 Series Sedan
- 2020-2021 7 Series Sedan
- 2020 8 Series Convertible and Coupe, and Gran Coupe
