There are many ways people can enhance their cars. One way some do this is to add cameras for cars to record their journeys. Many people swear by the use of dashcams, but others may not understand the value they bring to drivers, as they can come in handy in several situations. Many people use them when they either get into car wrecks or when they are pulled over.

What is a dash camera?

Everyone has heard of the dash camera, but there is a bit of misconception about what it actually is. A dash cam is a small recording device usually affixed to the inside of the windshield. It records footage from in front of the vehicle, and some dash cam models can even take footage from the rear of the car.

Regarding storage, most dash cameras use micro SD cards. However, some options have cloud access, which makes storing and accessing the data much more manageable. Dash cams also use the vehicle they’re connected to as a power source. According to Momento Cam, a DIY camera can cost between $100 and $350. However, many drivers have their cameras professionally installed.

In terms of camera resolution, most dash camera footage is in HD. Some high-quality models even shoot in 4K. This means people with dash cams shouldn’t have to worry about grainy footage.

The footage can stand up in court if you get pulled over

There are many situations where body cameras can come in handy. One is if you get pulled over by the police and feel that their information may not be accurate. After all, everyone makes mistakes despite being well-meaning. In particular, some people who have been accused of going a certain amount over the speed limit have been able to use their body camera footage to either prove they were not speeding or that they weren’t going as fast as the police officer believed they were.

Cameras for cars help with Insurance claims

Car wrecks are always stressful. This is partly because of how long it can take for your insurance company to investigate and settle the claim. Luckily, having a dash camera can help speed up the process. This is because the dash cam will likely pick up the events of the car accident, leaving no doubt for insurance agents that you’re entitled to a payout.

Drivers in some countries even get insurance discounts for having dash cameras in their cars. However, this isn’t the case in the U.S.

In general, there are many situations where having a dash camera would be beneficial. In particular, this is the case in any situation where having an extra pair of eyes could help. The market for dash cams is also vast, which means the features are almost unlimited.
