Car insurance policies are required for driving in most states. However, car insurance companies can decide against providing vehicle coverage for several reasons. This can even be the case after being a customer for several years. This is what happened to one Minnesota woman who tried to renew her car insurance.

Car insurance policies are required

As drivers know, car insurance policies have to be renewed in order to continue coverage. However, according to WKYT, when Erin Walter went to do just that, she was told by State Farm that they would not be renewing coverage for her 2019 Hyundai Elantra. The company stated that the reason was the excessive theft rate of the Hyundai sedan. Of course, various Hyundai models have been in the news for being stolen by the so-called Kia Boyz.

Erin had this to say to the outlet, “I was shocked that State Farm was denying me.” She then said she wouldn’t get another Hyundai because the automaker wasn’t fixing the issue. Unfortunately, other car insurance companies are doing the same and not offering policies to people in certain states with some Kia and Hyundai models because of the theft.

As we reported before, some Hyundai and Kia vehicles lack immobilizers. The lack of this safety feature makes it much easier for bad actors to steal the cars. There have been class action lawsuits from both owners and some cities across the country over the matter. As Erin mentioned, neither automaker has offered a solution to this widespread problem. It’s unclear what car insurance policies from other companies Erin has looked into.
