There’s a new recall for the MINI Cooper over the risk of fires
People looking for the best small cars with personality have several options to choose from. However, the Mini Cooper has been a popular choice for decades now. Unfortunately, there’s a new car recall for the Mini Cooper EV over fire concerns. Luckily, owners won’t have to shell out any money for the fix. Auto mechanics at BMW dealerships will be able to fix the issue.
BMW has a new car recall for the MINI Cooper EV
The Mini Cooper is one of the best small cars and competes with the Mazda Miata. However, a new car recall is impacting the well-known roadster. According to The Hill, BMW is issuing a recall for 12,000 of the all-electric SE trims due to a battery issue. For context, BMW owns Mini.
Specifically, this car recall impacts models made between 2020 and 2024 with battery parts that were not up to production standards. This is especially dangerous because the potential issues with the batteries could lead to overheating and might result in fires. These issues could arise even if the impacted Mini Cooper EV models are parked.
So, what’s the fix for this car recall? Owners can take their Mini Cooper SE EVs to BMW auto mechanics at authorized dealerships. There, they will install a software update to fix the battery issue. This update will also include a diagnostic function to detect problems. Customers will be notified in early October.
Luckily for Mini and BMW, this isn’t an extensive recall. For more reading, check out our article on the recent Ford recall that affected more than 90,000 vehicles.
