It has long been said that buying brand-new first-generation vehicles is a bad idea. No recent vehicle has proven that quite as much as the Fisker Ocean has. Touted as one of the best all-electric SUVs, the ill-fated vehicle now has five car recalls. It’s been reported that owners must pay out of pocket for some of the fixes.

The automaker usually pays for car recalls

As mentioned, what was once predicted to be one of the best all-electric SUVs has five car recalls. This is after it debuted last year, but it has been riddled with problems ever since. According to Inside EVs, there are even more problems for people who own the Fisker Ocean. The automaker, which has filed for bankruptcy, can’t afford to pay for all the repairs needed for the SUV.

Fisker sent a letter addressing the car recalls to people with the Fisker Ocean. In it, the automaker admitted that it couldn’t pay for two recalls and that owners would have to pay for the issues themselves. Notably, the three recalls Fisker will provide only need over-the-air updates for their resolutions. The other two issues require a more hands-on approach.

Regarding the car recalls owners will pay out of pocket for, one is over an issue with the door handles. The other issue impacts the cabin electric water pump. Fisker is providing the parts for these issues, but Ocean owners will need to pay out of pocket for labor costs.

However, it is a bit unclear where the needed parts for the Fisker Ocean will come from as the automaker has so many financial issues. Notably, there are reports that an insurance company totaled one Ocean because they couldn’t find the necessary door part.
