Everyone wants cheap gas prices, and they are now easier to find than they have been in a while. Of course, this makes the decision to go on road trips even more accessible for drivers, as trips to gas station pumps are less daunting. Now, it seems prices may be getting cheaper than some people predicted, as gas recently hit a six-month low thanks to the influx in oil production.

Are cheap gas prices here to stay?

According to KCRA, cheap gas prices are continuing, hitting a six-month low of $3.31 this week. This number is 50 cents lower than it was this time last year, which is a massive win for U.S. drivers who have been penny-pinching at gas station pumps. The good news doesn’t stop there. According to reports, drivers in 10 states, including Texas and Kentucky, are paying under $3.00 per gallon.

The president of the Lipow Oil Associates firm believes more states will have cheap gas prices that fall below $3.00 in the next few weeks. Additionally, data shows that 41,000 gas stations out of 130,000 studied already have this level of pricing. There were only 100 gas stations this time last year charging under $3.00 per gallon.

Because of this, Patrick De Haan from GasBuddy believes 35 to 40 states could see gas prices below $3.00 per gallon by Thanksgiving. According to him, “Gas prices, after two-plus years of sizzling because of outside factors like COVID and Russia, are finally coming back into balance.”
