Buying gas is a necessary evil for most people on the road. Part of the issue is that the amount drivers pay at gas station pumps is almost always fluctuating. However, cheap gas prices are returning, so now might be a great time for road trips. This is important because most of the best new cars are still gas-powered.
Cheap gas prices are making a comeback for the time being
Many drivers decide between the best new cars based on fuel economy. This will always be a good decision for most buyers, as cheap gas prices aren’t always the norm. However, they are going down, and there is reason to believe this could be the case for a while. According to NPR, the national average for regular-grade gas is $3.38, 20 cents lower than in May.
Additionally, fuel costs have fallen by 47 cents compared to this time in 2023, making cheap gas prices easier to find. Industry experts believe that this isn’t a fad and that the price decrease will continue for several months. In fact, the national average for regular-grade fuel could get down to $3.00 per gallon, which hasn’t been the case since 2021.
Currently, regular gas in California costs an average of $4.49, but it’s only $2.93 in Mississippi. For comparison, California drivers paid about $5.18 at gas station pumps in California in May of this year. Still, there are factors that could limit cheap gas prices nationwide. For starters, hurricane season could throw a wrench if one hits where refining happens. Of course, world events also affect how much it costs people to fill up their tanks. Despite this, we’ll take low prices for fuel for as long as they’re around.
