This driver is considering legal action after bad gas caused a $1,500 repair bill
In the last few months, it has become easier to find cheap gas prices. However, drivers have other concerns, as there seems to be an increase in gas station mixups. This has mostly been the case regarding regular gas and diesel at station pumps. Now, one Florida woman claims her car has been ruined and requires expensive repairs from the auto mechanics at a local dealership.
Cheap gas prices mean nothing if it damages your car
According to WCJB ABC 20, Amy Rowell says she filled up her car at a Gainesville Chevron gas station. Like many drivers, she was probably happy that gas prices are cheap again. She could drive home, but her 2022 Acura wouldn’t start the following day when she planned to commute to work. She then took the car to the auto mechanics at a local dealership, and they discovered the problem. Her vehicle had contaminated gas. She says it was half premium fuel and half water.
Naturally, this gas station mixup requires quite a bit of engine work. Amy says her repair bill from the auto mechanics came out to $1,500, but the gas station offered her $200 for the mistake. This severely detracts from the cheap gas prices everyone is enjoying. As for the gas station, the owner says the problem is that water from a nearby storm drain leaks into the fuel tanks.
He says fixing the issue once and for all would cost $23,000. Of course, when this happens, the issue at gas station pumps is usually with a mix-up between regular gas and diesel. However, having gas contaminated with water isn’t unheard of.
According to the owner, “We took over this store from Circle K. We got this store in harsh condition and with water issues in the tank… We asked Circle K to fix the issue, but they denied, saying it was our problem now.”
Both the car owner and the person who owns the Chevron station are considering legal action.
