The Ford Mustang is one of the best muscle cars, and the newer models live up to that distinction. However, no car is perfect, and Ford now has a potential class action suit on its hands. This litigation is coming after one couple says their 2018 Ford Mustang had severe mechanical problems that left them with an almost $10,000 repair bill from the auto mechanics.
One of the best muscle cars is at the center of a class action suit
The idea that a fairly new car would need the help of auto mechanics for serious issues is ridiculous. However, this has become much more common. According to CarScoops, Trevor and Sarah Nelson had this happen to their Ford EcoBoost Mustang, and now they’re moving forward with a class action suit. Their issues with what many call one of the best muscle cars started in December 2023 when they noticed the check engine light.
The couple then took their beloved car to the auto mechanics at a California Ford dealership. There, they determined that coolant was leaking into the cylinders of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. So, how much did it cost to have the engine replaced? A refurbished engine for the Mustang costs $9,460, which is why they are moving forward with the class action suit. Additionally, replacing the engine doesn’t address why coolant leaked into the engine.
Of course, coolant getting into the engine can cause several issues. The problems include loss of power, corrosion, and engine failure. Additionally, coolant in the engine could cause “catastrophic engine failures and potential engine fires.” The plaintiffs, Sarah and Trevor, filed the potential class action suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.
The couple is seeking a jury trial for themselves and other Ford EcoBoost Mustang owners with impacted engines. Luckily, they were able to afford the expensive fix, but many others may not be able to. Notably, the turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine powers other vehicles.
