Mazda makes some of the best new cars on the market. This has been true for a while, but no automaker is perfect. Now, the legendary car maker has a new class action suit over a severe defect that could lead to all-out engine failure. Unfortunately, this issue could impact some of its most popular models. This includes the 2024 Mazda3.
Mazda has a new class action suit on its hands
According to Top Class Actions, Matt Cauller is moving forward with a class action suit against Mazda. In the suit, he alleges that the automaker knowingly equipped several of its most popular cars and SUVs with defective engines. In particular, the lawsuit goes after the SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine and says it has a defect that causes it to leak coolant.
Naturally, a coolant leak is never a good thing for a vehicle. This alleged defect in Mazda engines causes impacted cars to overheat, and it could lead to “catastrophic engine failure.” The class action suit states, “Because of the Engine Defect, Mazda’s advertising about the safety and dependability of the Class Vehicles is untrue and materially misleading.”
The suit continues, “Mazda has long known of the Engine Defect. It has amassed years of research, data, and Engine Defect warranty claims.”
Matt Cauller, the plaintiff, wants a jury trial for himself and other South Carolina residents who bought or leased impacted Mazda cars. The vehicles include the following:
- Mazda6 2018-2021
- Mazda3 2021-2024
- Mazda CX-30 2021-2024
- Mazda CX-9 2016- 2023
- Mazda CX-5 2019-2024
- Mazda CX-50 2022-2024
