State Farm agrees to fork over $2 million for underpaying drivers following car accidents
Having a good car insurance policy is one of the most important parts of vehicle ownership. For starters, it’s required in most states. However, drivers also depend on car insurance companies in the event of car wrecks. Unfortunately, one of the most popular options for coverage failed to pay Washington drivers fully after accidents. Now, the company has settled a class action suit to make things right.
State Farm and other car insurance companies are no strangers to the idea of a class action suit
Most successful companies have had a class action suit or two. This is often due to insurance companies’ oversight. According to Top Class Actions, State Farm has settled with Washington drivers who the company failed to fully reimburse after being involved in car wrecks. The total settlement is for $2.09 million.
So, what are the specifics behind this class action suit against State Farm? It involves drivers who had State Farm and Casualty Co with underinsured motorist coverage. Unfortunately, these people were involved in car wrecks between March 23, 2012, and February 13, 2024, and the damage went beyond $1,000.
To be included in the lawsuit, the vehicles couldn’t be older than six years and had to have less than 90,000 miles on the odometer. Additionally, the accident must have resulted in structural damage.
The class action lawsuit also claims that the car owners should have been reimbursed for “diminished value,” as stated by Washington state law. Regarding what each individual driver will get, reports say it will be around $550. People must submit a claim form by November 12 to receive their settlement. Notably, State Farm hasn’t admitted to any wrongdoing.
