People looking for their next vehicle have several options. However, the continuously variable transmission (CVT) is among the most debated topics in the automotive world. Some love what it offers to the driving experience, while others believe it’s unreliable. Many auto mechanics are also divided over cars that have a CVT. One mechanic recently took to social media to share his feelings about the CVT.

Auto mechanics are divided over cars that have a continuously variable transmission

Auto mechanics are great at advising drivers on what cars to buy and what to look for. Of course, they don’t always agree, but many of them are on the same page about vehicles that use a continuously variable transmission. Now, according to Daily Dot, a mechanic from Walsh Auto & Cycle (@walshauto) recently took to TikTok to warn against cars that have a CVT.

Like most good auto mechanics, the technician from Walsh Auto & Cycle doesn’t mince words in the video. Cutting straight to it, he says buying a car with a CVT could be a horrible idea for people in the market for a new vehicle. In fact, he’s actually working on a Nissan with a CVT in the video.

Regarding his reasoning, he says that vehicles with a continuously variable transmission don’t last as long as “regular automatics.” He goes on to call the more recent cars that use a CVT “junk.” He then says they experience several expensive issues related to the unit. This mechanic goes as far as to say people with cars with this type of transmission should sell them.
