Things haven’t been great for Stellantis in recent years. There have been several issues, including low sales and layoffs. Now, there could be a new Dodge recall as the NHTSA is investigating some of its SUV models over faulty locks and windows. In particular, the potential recall will target specific Dodge Journey models.

Certain Dodge SUV models are being investigated

According to Reuters, the NHTSA has upgraded its investigation of Dodge Journey models made between 2009 and 2020. The investigation targets some 992,643 SUVs over faulty doors and windows that may not allow people to exit the vehicle in the case of an emergency. The NHTSA has upgraded the investigation to an engineering analysis from a preliminary evaluation.

Notably, the engineering analysis stage is a requirement before the NHTSA can force a recall of these Dodge SUV models. According to the report, there have been seven instances of door and window issues in these Dodge Journey SUVs. Sadly, the malfunction has caused one death.

A representative from Stellantis said this regarding the fatality caused by its Dodge SUV models, “We extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of the customer whose life was lost, and we are providing NHTSA with our full cooperation.”

It’s also important to note that at least one instance of malfunction involved a fire. The NHTSA is looking into the cause and how it may have impacted the door locks. It’s unclear how long the engineering analysis will take for the Dodge SUVs.

Additionally, Stellantis, the company that owns Dodge, recently said it’s not against cutting underperforming brands.
