Car recalls can be nightmares for both automakers and vehicle owners. However, they are necessary as automotive mistakes and defects are sometimes unavoidable. Recently, General Motors issued a car recall for a number of 2025 SUVs. Luckily for buyers, this happened before the SUVs were delivered. This means the auto mechanics at dealerships will be able to fix the issue before it’s a problem for drivers.

GM has a preemptive car recall on its hands

General Motors deserves a bit of respect for its most recent car recall. According to GM Authority, the automotive giant is recalling specific models of the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer and the Equinox for an issue with the door strikers. Specifically, the impacted crossover SUVs have door strikers that are defective and could potentially fail. Notably, this failure could happen while driving or in the case of an accident. Of course, the striker is an integral part of the door-latching system.

So, what vehicles are included in this preemptive car recall? It includes 731 total SUVs. This breaks down to 513 units of the Chevrolet Blazer, 215 of the EV version, and three Chevrolet Equinox EV units. For reference, the recall number is N242477131. It’s also important to note that the defective door strikers in these brand new SUVs are from a supplier and not from Chevy or GM.

Regarding the repair for this car recall, auto mechanics at dealerships have been given guidance on what to do. Essentially, they will replace the door strikers and bolts, which means potential buyers shouldn’t be impacted.
