When it comes to GPS apps, Google Maps is still king. This is the case because most people consider it the most reliable. Of course, it also doesn’t hurt that drivers can install the app on practically any smart device, which isn’t true for Apple Maps. The company has announced new features, but it still doesn’t have the one most drivers want.

Google Maps is number 1 among GPS apps

GPS apps are a part of many people’s driving habits. Because of this, we look forward to updates that help make traveling more accessible and safer. According to Yahoo, Google recently announced two new changes to what is one of the most popular GPS apps. For starters, the application will make it easier for drivers to report things like road work, closures, and even police presence.

Secondly, like all GPS applications should, it will also do a better job highlighting your exact destination. This includes listing the entrances and showing available parking lots, which is needed because many drivers have to spend time trying to find exactly where to go once they reach their destinations.

While the new updates are significant, there’s one thing Google and other GPS apps seem hesitant about. Many people want the ability to pause the navigation session without closing the app altogether. Adding this feature would be useful in several situations, especially when people are stopping for food or gas. Of course, it should be a simple thing to add, which is why many drivers who use GPS are boggled as to why it’s impossible.

Regarding the popularity of GPS apps, Google Maps has more than one billion active users every month. More than 67 percent of smartphone users rely on it, making Google Maps the most popular navigation option.
