Honda Electric SUV: How the Prologue Will Compete With Its Rivals
The upcoming Honda Electric SUV, the Prologue, is one of the most anticipated all-electric SUVs coming down the assembly line. As the automaker’s first, there is a lot of excitement and pressure as Honda steps into this more efficient style of vehicle execution. Of course, the world doesn’t have much concrete information regarding the future SUV. However, the 2024 Honda Prologue is assumed to compete directly against the Mustang Mach-E and the Ioniq 5.
What we know about the 2024 Honda Prologue
Honda has yet to reveal much about the upcoming all-electric SUV. However, it is known that it will use the General Motors Ultium battery packs. In addition, it will use a chassis developed in conjunction with the automotive giant. Because of this, people believe the Honda Prologue will share a few traits with the upcoming Chevrolet Blazer EV.
According to Car and Driver, these similarities to the Blazer all-electric SUV could mean that the Honda Electric SUV might have a range of between 250 and 320 miles on a single charge. This predicted range puts the 2024 Honda Prologue in line with the Mustang Mach-E and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The GM Ultium battery packs are widespread and will power a number of other upcoming all-electric SUVs.
The Mustang Mach-E
The upcoming Honda Electric SUV is expected to have similar performance to the Mustang Mach-E. The latest version of the all-electric SUV has a 70.0 kWh standard range battery or a 92.0 kWH pack for extended range. They work with a single or dual electric motor mounted to the axles. The lower trims of the Ford Mustang Mach-E have maximum outputs of between 266 and 346 hp.
The Mach-E also comes in GT trims. The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is all-wheel drive with a maximum output of 480 hp. It has a torque of 634 lb-ft. This version accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 3.5 seconds. Given that Honda already makes some performance vehicles, it’d be no surprise if the Honda Electric SUV ended up being just as fast as the electric Mustang.
Hyundai Ioniq 5
In addition to the electric Mustang, many believe the 2024 Honda Prologue could be similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Though less powerful than the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Ioniq 5 is no slouch regarding performance. The standard range single motor setup has a maximum output of 168hp, whereas the longer range model is 225 hp. There are also more powerful versions of the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Honda might still be pretty quiet about its upcoming all-electric SUV. However, it’s clear that the Honda Electric SUV will not only compete with some of the best EV SUVs but also that the company is collaborating with other automakers to deliver the best project. Honda tried before and failed to produce a well-received fully electric vehicle, but the Prologue is close to release.
