The new Honda Accord has been struggling a bit to capture the hearts of people who would usually buy it. This was not the case for the 2023 Honda Accord as it improved over its 2022 popularity. The problem is that the Honda Accord is a significant flop in 2024 and has some of the lowest sales ever for what is usually one of the best new cars. It’s struggling against the 2024 Honda Civic and Toyota Camry models.

The new Honda Accord isn’t among the best new cars in sales

Naturally, the 2024 Honda Accord is still one of the best new cars regarding quality. However, buyers seem to be much less interested in it than they are in its smaller sibling, the Civic in 2024. According to Good Car Bad Car, the Accord has sold about 68,124 units in 2024. By this time in 2023, the Honda Accord had sold over 80,000 units.

For comparison, the 2024 Honda Civic has moved 107,959 units this year. Unlike with the Accord, this marks a significant increase from last year. Overall, 200,381 people bought the Honda Civic in 2023, which is more than the amount that bought the Accord. Of course, the Civic is cheaper than the Accord, but one is gaining popularity while the other is losing it.

Why aren’t people buying the new Accord?

There are a few reasons fewer people are buying the 2024 Honda Accord than in the past. Naturally, one of the biggest complaints about the car is its exterior appearance. People know the Accord for being one of the top sedans for a professional yet modern look. However, the redesigned vehicle has this elongated look that not very many people appreciate. Many call it an eyesore.

There’s also a discussion surrounding the overall value of the Accord. For starters, the 2024 Toyota Camry is only hundreds of dollars more but still happens to be more powerful and efficient. Of course, many people may want a hybrid, which is expensive for the Honda Accord but comes standard with the Camry.

Additionally, there is the issue of performance. The 2024 Honda Accord does not have a V6, as it’s been absent from the lineup for a while now. However, some of its rivals still have one, making this a much less appealing sedan to many. In fact, there are many reports of people going to dealerships for an Accord but leaving in a new Civic. This is despite the size difference between the two vehicles.

So, can Honda turn things around for the sedan after it’s had such bad sales in 2024? There have been rumors that the automaker plans to implement changes, but these have not been substantiated. Right now, it’s still early, and people haven’t grown to hate the Accord as with great cars from the past that went downhill.
