Let’s face it; everyone loves shiny new things. Especially with the holidays around the corner, people have an increased radar for the latest and greatest products coming to market. Automakers have taken advantage of this fact over the past several months. For example, Ford revealed the release of the Bronco for the 2021 model year. This announcement has been met with increased anticipation. It is clear motorists are ready for new options, and they are waiting with bated breath for other brands to follow suit.  

Hyundai hopes to harness this same sensationalism with the announcement of their newest SUV. Crossovers and SUVs have dominated the market in recent years, as they cater to the broadest range of consumers. This segment includes plenty of versatile, comfortable, and spacious options, meeting the needs of many buyers. That’s why it’s ambitious for Hyundai to throw its weight behind this overcrowded division. 

So what exactly does Hyundai have up their sleeves for their newest SUV? Let’s take a look at what we know about the newest member of the Hyundai family. 

What we know about the upcoming new Hyundai SUV

Hyundai dropped the name of its all-new SUV via a recent press release. This latest entry will be called the Hyundai Bayon. This name might not ring a bell to many Americans, but it may sound familiar to European drivers. 

Hyundai said Bayonne, France inspired the moniker because of the city’s active lifestyle. Shakespeare once said that “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” However, brands put a lot of thought and money behind the “why” of a vehicle’s name. Think of it this way: a name is like a first impression, and you always want to make a good one. 

We certainly can’t speak definitely for Hyundai’s intentions behind this creative name. However, it certainly seems like the vehicle will strive to embody the upscale feel of France. It also would be safe to assume the automaker is catering to shoppers with active and robust lives. Who wouldn’t want to check out this upcoming release when the name alone indicates versatility and style?  

So what’s the catch? This SUV will be available in the first half of 2021. However, it doesn’t seem like the Korean automaker plans to release the Hyundai Bayon in the U.S. any time soon. Instead, the manufacturer will focus on the European market.

The current Hyundai lineup is already stacked with SUVs

The Hyundai Bayon won’t initially come to North America. Although, that doesn’t mean it won’t arrive in the future. Hyundai’s crossover and SUV lineup in the U.S. consists of the Venue, Kona, Tucson, Santa Fe, and Palisade. 

The Venue and the Kona are subcompact SUVs. These vehicles are fantastic options for new drivers and young professionals. Meanwhile, the redesigned 2022 Hyundai Tucson is built for growing families. It offers ample cargo space and gets excellent gas mileage. The Santa Fe is a mainstay in Hyundai’s lineup, and it’s become a favorite for those looking for a spacious and safe midsize SUV. Finally, the Palisade recently debuted to critical acclaim, becoming one of the most anticipated three-row SUVs on the market.  

So, where might the Hyundai Bayon fit in if it were to cross the pond in the future?

What to expect from the Hyundai Bayon in the future 

Hyundai said the Bayon, which is classified as a B-segment vehicle in Europe, will be the entry-point to its SUV offerings. Notably, the Hyundai Venue  – the brand’s entry-level SUV in the U.S. – isn’t sold in Europe. If the Hyundai Bayon succeeds overseas, then it would be conceivable that the automaker would bring it to North America to replace the Venue at the bottom of the lineup.
