When most people buy the best new cars, they don’t expect them to end up the junkyard. However, this happens with many modern vehicles. In fact, it’s becoming more common to see relatively newer cars in this state for one reason or another. Here are three modern cars likely to call junkyards their final resting place.  

The Chrysler PT Cruiser is among the most common cars to see in the junkyard

The Chrysler PT Cruiser is one of the most common Junkyard cars. It was in production from 2000 until 2010. During that time, it was one of the best new cars for people who wanted something a little different to stand out on the road. According to Kendall Dodge Chrysler Jeep, about 1.3 units of the PT Cruiser were produced. The automaker discontinued the car in 2010 after sales continued to decline worldwide. 

Like many junkyard cars, the Chrysler PT Cruiser got a bit of bad press. This was because many hated how it looked and for more serious reasons. In 2008, the IIHS called the 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser the most dangerous new small car. It earned this title due to unsatisfactory side and rear crash tests. 

Nowadays, you still see people driving around in the Chrysler PT Cruiser. However, fewer than you see in some of its rivals from that time. 

You’ll see Dodge and Chrysler minivans

The Chrysler PT Cruiser is one of the most common junkyard cars, but you’ll also see various minivans from the automaker and Dodge. This one should be no surprise, as many of these vehicles have several complaints. This is especially the case for models produced from 1997 up to 2002. 

These Dodge and Chrysler minivans had quite a few issues. Namely, many owners needed transmission replacements early on in ownership. This could be one reason so many of them become junkyard cars. It’s also important to point out that minivans often have to carry more people, which could also result in them having the junkyard as their final resting place. 

The Pontiac Grand Am

The Pontiac Grand Am is another of the most popular junkyard cars. This is especially true for the later years of the vehicle, which many considered one of the best new cars at the time. For context, the now-defunct automaker made the Pontiac Grand Am from 1973 until 2005. It was one of Pontiac’s most popular vehicles, so it does make sense why it would have such a presence in junkyards. 

Of course, the vehicles you’ll see at junkyards nationwide will vary. However, some are more common overall than others.
