Lexus Fills Gaping Hole in Its Lineup With Its Newest SUV
Lexus is one of the most celebrated luxury automakers on the market. However, there has been a gaping hold in the Lexus lineup due to the absence of an additional three-row SUV option. Of course, Lexus recently introduced an RX with a third row, but now there’s a new Lexus SUV with three rows instead of only one version with this extra space. The Lexus TX is a brand-new option, and it comes highly welcomed by many SUV buyers.
Here’s a look at the 2024 Lexus TX and how it compares to other luxury SUVs on the market.
The 2024 Lexus TX is bigger than the RX-L
The 2024 Lexus TX isn’t just a new Lexus SUV. It’s also a drastic improvement over its previous RX three-row counterpart. While luxury SUV buyers were happy to finally have a less expensive three-row option from Lexus, compared to the much pricier GX and LX, the RX-L left much to be desired in this regard. The third row was extremely cramped and made for an uncomfortable experience for the poor souls who had to sit back there.
Luckily, the 2024 Lexus TX adds about 9 inches of space back there, which helps even the tallest of passengers. According to J.D. Power, Lexus accomplishes adding the larger third row by increasing the overall wheelbase of the SUV. Regarding seating capacity, the all-new Lexus TX can accommodate up to seven people with its traditional layout. However, buyers can opt for second-row captain’s chairs instead of the bench seats to make it a six-seater. This means the spacious third row of this new Lexus SUV can seat two people.
Regarding competitors, the 2024 Lexus TX is easily comparable to the Infiniti QX60 and the Volvo CX90. Both SUVs offer a third row and similar specifications.
This new Lexus SUV has much to offer regarding performance
According to Edmunds, the 2024 Lexus TX has a turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four engine with a maximum output of 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. It has front and all-wheel configurations and uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid versions of this new Lexus SUV use the same engine but have a maximum output of 366 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.
Regarding its rivals, the 2024 Infiniti QX60 uses a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a maximum output of 295 horsepower. The Volvo XC90, a mild hybrid, has a 2-liter inline-four engine with multiple trims and different maximum outputs. All three luxury SUVs offer similar fuel economy, with the base trim of the new Lexus SUV averaging 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
How the Lexus TX interior stacks up
As with any new Lexus SUV, the TX has some exciting standard interior features. The new luxury SUV has a power-adjustable steering column, which helps keep the driver comfortable. This works especially well when more than one person drives the SUV. The TX also has heated power-adjustable seats in the front. Additionally, buyers get ambient lighting, which adds a degree of character to an already excellent vehicle.
Regarding interior technology, the 2024 Lexus TX has a 14-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. For comparison, the Infiniti QX60 has a 12.3-inch screen, while the Volvo CX90 has a 9-inch unit. This puts the new Lexus TX ahead when it comes to interior technology. Additionally, it has the most modern look out of the three luxury SUVs. Regarding price, the 2024 Lexus TX starts at $55,050. The Infiniti SUV starts at $49,650, while the Volvo costs $56,000.
