Local tow companies can be both a blessing and a curse. They’re great for businesses but no one wants to have to locate their vehicle. Either way, most people trust these companies to handle people’s cars as they should. However, one San Francisco company the FBI recently raided one tow truck company, and there’s even another one linked to the fraud allegations.

Some Local tow companies in San Fransico are sketchy

San Fransico has several local tow companies. However, the FBI recently conducted a raid over fraud allegations. According to CBS News, the main target was a company called Specialty Towing. The company has allegations of money laundering and multiple counts of fraud, including insurance, mail, and wire. The FBI raid happened early Thursday morning and people in the neighborhood reported hearing what sounded like fireworks.

One onlooker had this to say, “The FBI people were parked across the street with their Army trucks and their Army helmets and their uniforms on and their guns drawn. And these loud noises with these loud things going boom! Boom!”

It’s also important to note that IRS agents were on the scene to conduct their own investigation into the fraud allegations against one of the most well-known local tow companies in the area. One of the biggest complaints against Specialty Towing is that another of the local towing companies from the area removed cars from a business without its permission between February and May of 2023.

That company, called Auto Towing, then took the cars to a lot owned by Specialty Towing. Notably, Auto Towing has its own lots, which raises several red flags for both companies.

The report says that it was more of a challenge for car owners to retrieve their vehicles from the Specialty Towing lot than it would have been had Auto Towing used its own lot. Auto Towing is one of the local tow companies that has other issues. The city even banned it from receiving city contracts for five years over allegations of “predatory behavior.”

Of course, the FBI will need to investigate these local tow companies using what the agents found during the raid. However, the FBI arrested the owners, and they got out on a $50,000 bond.
