L.A. traffic was stalled for over an hour as a helicopter landed on the freeway
There’s a lot that can be said about Los Angeles traffic, which is the case with many major U.S. cities. However, reports of aircraft landing on the freeway aren’t typical. Still, this happened recently as a helicopter made an emergency landing after having mechanical issues. Luckily, there didn’t seem to be any plane passengers flying on the aircraft as this would have further complicated things.
This helicopter disrupted Los Angeles traffic recently
Los Angeles traffic can be pretty stressful. However, this reached an extreme recently. According to NBC4 Los Angeles, a helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing on September 5th. Naturally, this also meant that the California Highway Patrol had to shut down part of the freeway. Specifically, they closed the 110 Freeway southbound lanes near Century Blvd.
The exact reasons for the emergency landing that interrupted Los Angeles traffic are unknown. However, it has been reported that the helicopter had some mechanical issues. The helicopter pilot contacted Air Traffic Control at about 8:24 p.m. to inform them of the emergency landing. It’s unclear where the helicopter was heading at the time of the emergency landing.
Naturally, multiple agencies were on the scene, as traffic had to be diverted, and they assessed the situation with the helicopter. The California Highway Patrol also issued an alert for drivers. Additionally, it’s unclear if there were plane passengers along with the pilot on the aircraft. Ultimately, the helicopter was towed away, and traffic stalled for about an hour and a half.
