The Mercedes-Benz GLS serves as the Tri-Star brand’s full-size SUV offering, one that is less off-road-centric than the G-Class. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS starts at $87,000 MSRP
The GLS has been slightly revamped for 2024. It now sports a more squared-off front fascia with a revised grille, LED headlights, and a redesigned steering wheel. Mercedes has also upped the power output of the base 3.0-liter inline-six engine from 362 to 375 horsepower. The twin-turbo V8 fitted to the midrange 580 model is bumped to 510 hp up from 483.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 starts at $87,000 MSRP. Though pricier than some competitors, the GLS is well-appointed with plenty of luxe features.
Standard features include all-wheel drive, an air suspension, a 48-volt mild hybrid system, adaptive dampening, and 21-inch wheels. Notable interior features include synthetic leather upholstery, 64-color ambient lighting, synthetic leather-wrapped dash trim, heated and ventilated front seats with memory settings, a power liftgate, remote start, power-folding third row, four-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic roof.
Connectivity includes dual 12.3-inch displays, navigation with route-based speed adaptation, a Burmester surround sound system, satellite radio, a two-way in-car communication system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
For safety concerns, a forward collision mitigation system, blind-spot warning, a surround-view camera, and an automatic parking system are standard. The GLS also features navigation with augmented reality.
The 2024 AMG GLS 63 commands $145,850
Those seeking the ultimate in luxury and performance can opt for the AMG-tuned GLS 63 model, which cranks out 603 horsepower and starts at $145,850 MSRP. In addition to a performance version of the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 of the GLS 580 model, the top model’s transmission, suspension, steering, brake, exhaust, and all-wheel drive system receive the AMG treatment. The Mercedes-Benz GLS 63 also includes a limited-slip rear differential and drive mode controls on the steering wheel.
Additional luxe amenities include massaging front seats with a rapid-heating system, a heated steering wheel, heated/cooled front cupholders, a cabin fragrance and air-purification system, Nappa leather upholstery, and heated second-row seats.
The MBUX Interior Assistant, a head-up display, and AMG’s Track Pace system are also standard.
Options and accessories for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS
Several options packages are available for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS. The GLS 450 can be upgraded to Exclusive trim for $1,750, which adds heated second-row seats and massaging front seats with rapid heating. The 450 Pinnacle ($3,550) adds these features, plus heated and cooled front cupholders, a head-up display, MBUX Interior Assistant, front door ground illumination, and the cabin fragrance and air purification systems.
Also available is the AMG Line appearance package ($3,250), highlighted by unique 21-inch wheels, body styling updates, and an AMG steering wheel. Heated front armrests in the front two rows can be added for $1,100.
The midrange GLS 580 model is offered with the Executive Rear Seat Package Plus for $3,750. It includes heated and ventilated second-row seats with massage functionality, “luxury” head restraints, an MBUX tablet, and wireless charging for those in the middle row. The E-Active Body Control system, which scans the road surface ahead for road/trail hazards to counteract their impacts, is available, along with underbody protection, for $6,500.
Already flush with standard amenities, the AMG GLS 63 top trim can be had with the rear seat package and heated armrests. Carbon fiber interior trim is also available for the AMG model for $1,750.
Lastly, cost-added optional exterior paints and wheels, up to 23-inch units for the GLS 63, are optional.
