There have been rumblings for a while that there would be a new Acura NSX, as it’s easily one of the top sports cars. However, there have been roadblocks that have prevented Honda/Acura from moving forward with bringing back the iconic car. Now, there is a chance we could see a new version of the recently discontinued vehicle.

Is there a new Acura NSX?

Gearheads will recall that the Acura NSX became an icon in the 1990s. Since then, the car has been featured in several forms of media, including The Fast and the Furious. Though there have been gaps in production, many people consider it one of the best sports cars because the automaker found ways to keep it modern. Of course, this led to the price ballooning for more recent model years.

So, will there be a new Acura NSX? It doesn’t seem so. However, the automaker recently had an interview with The Drive and discussed plans for an “NSX-type” all-electric car. Global Executive Vice President Shinji Aoyama had this to say, “We are going to introduce the sports model in 2028 that does not have a solid-state battery, but our development approach for this new 0 Series is thin and light.”

For context, Honda has dubbed its EV platform 0 Series. He goes on, “We are going to introduce a sports model. We may not call it NSX but a kind of NSX type of vehicle in 2028.”

The interview also discussed how solid-state batteries are still far away from being mass-produced. This is why it was important for their EV platform to be “thin and light.” Shinji Aoyama also said this platform in the new Acura NSX-type vehicle will allow more passenger space. Of course, 2028 is a long time away, so it will be exciting to see what kind of performance this new all-electric car will offer. However, if it’s like the NSX, it’s easy to assume it will be one of the best sports cars of the future.
