The 2024 GMC Acadia is one of the top SUVs for people wanting something compact with many features. However, the new GMC Acadia isn’t perfect, as there have been complaints about transmission problems. One owner recently took to social media to blast GM after his SUV needed to have the unit replaced early into ownership.

This new GMC Acadia has severe transmission problems

Transmission problems can be common in vehicles. However, people don’t expect this to be the case when they opt for one of the top SUVs. According to Daily Dot, Marc (@marcpz) took to TikTok to share the story of his new GMC Acadia. He posted a video with the caption, “2024 Gmc Acadia…Transmission failed at 950 miles.”

Of course, GM owns GMC, and there have been several reports of transmission problems with some of the automakers’ other SUVs. Namely, the new Chevy Traverse, Trailblazer, and Blazer models have notable issues. The same is true for the new GMC Acadia and the Terrain. Luckily, just as with the Chevy models, the automaker has issued a service update bulletin, which allows owners to have the issues fixed for free. However, they only have until July 31, 2025, and the work has to be done by a GM dealership.

The TikTok video doesn’t go into detail about the transmission problems beyond saying that it failed. However, the majority of the issues with the new GMC Acadia have to do with either the clutch backing plate retaining ring or the clutch piston retaining ring. This isn’t a full-on recall, but it’s clear the automaker realizes there is an issue with some of its transmissions.
