This mother says she and her son were kicked off a flight over his allergy
Airlines refuse service to potential plane passengers for all sorts of reasons. Often, it’s because of unruly behavior that disturbs or threatens other passengers. However, one plane passenger is saying that she and her son couldn’t fly because of his severe allergy. Naturally, this is a rare reason for a person to be not to be able to fly on an airplane.
This plane passenger thinks she knows the real reason they couldn’t fly
According to Yahoo News, Crystal Shelton recently made an allegation to the Department of Transportation about her experience as a plane passenger with Allegiant. The allegation says that she and her eight-year-old son were denied flying from Chattanooga to the Tampa Bay Area in Florida because of her son’s nut allergy. Specifically, the young boy is allergic to pistachios and cashews, and being exposed to them could cause serious side effects, including death.
The plane passenger says she told a flight attendant upon boarding the flight, and they agreed not to serve nuts. However, another staff member heard the conversation and became upset. She even heard them say, “I’m going to get them off this flight.”
According to Crystal, the gate agent later told them they couldn’t fly on the aircraft because they were being “unruly.” When she asked for clarification, the gate agent told the plane passenger that a nut allergy to this extent could disrupt the flight. However, she believes the agent removed them because the staff members on the flight get a commission for snack sales.
Regarding their travel plans, Crystal and her son used a ride-share service and drove to Atlanta for a flight. As part of her complaint, Crystal says they were only reimbursed for the flight and not the other expenses they accrued. After the ordeal, Crystal wants the airline to train their crew members better on nut allergies.
