A JetBlue passenger is suing the airline after she broke her ankle and they told her not to call an ambulance
Plane passengers have learned that almost anything can go wrong. There are often delays, rude people sitting next to you, and the price to fly has skyrocketed. However, people don’t expect to sustain injuries while in the sky. Sadly, this is what happened to one plane passenger who decided to use JetBlue to travel to and from her vacation. Now, she is suing the airline for the freak accident.
This plane passenger got hurt while flying
According to Fox Business, Maria Mistretta was recently a plane passenger on JetBlue. In late July, she was on an airplane from John F. Kennedy International Airport to the Bahamas when she injured her ankle. This happened when she was getting up from her seat to go to the bathroom. While doing so, she tangled herself into a low-hanging seatbelt.
According to the report, the plane passenger “became entangled in a hanging seatbelt, or other object causing her to fall backwards. As she fell backwards, plaintiff’s foot twisted and cracked, and [Mistretta] landed on her back with her foot still tangled in the low-hanging object.”
Maria and her husband say that they asked for a first aid kit and ice to nurse the injury. However, the crew told them that “everything was packed up and inaccessible.” The crew informed the plane passenger she’d have to wait for the flight to deboard.
After landing, Maria says that JetBlue only gave her a “broken” wheelchair. The plane passenger also says they encouraged her not to call an ambulance. Maria says she and her husband were “forced” to book a return flight to New York. Once there, they went to the emergency room. During the incident, she had fractured her ankle. They also told her she had deep vein thrombosis and that a previous back injury had been aggravated.
Of course, there’s no way to know yet, but it seems she might have a case for a settlement from the company.
