A plane got stuck in the mud and left passengers stranded for 20 hours
People with experience traveling know that delays happen regardless of the mode of transportation you choose. However, a group of plane passengers using Swiss International Air Lines recently spent much more time delayed than they probably ever imagined. Luckily, another airline was able to send an airplane and get the passengers to their destination.
300 plane passengers were recently severely delayed
According to Fox Business, 331 plane passengers aboard a Boeing 777 were delayed by several hours. Reports say this happened when they were traveling from Tokyo to Zurich. The flight was supposed to be 14 hours. However, one of the passengers suffered a medical emergency about halfway through, and the flight changed course as a result.
The Boeing 777 then made an emergency landing in Astana, Kazakhstan, so the person could get medical attention. The problem for the other plane passengers came when the pilots tried to take off and resume the flight. According to reports, the taxiway at the airport was not open for use. This meant the pilots had to turn the airplane around on the runway. While attempting this, part of the aircraft got stuck in the muddy grass.
They then towed the plane back to the runway, but they were unable to use it for the trip. Luckily, Austrian Airlines, the sister company to Swiss International Airlines, sent one of its planes to carry the group to their destination. However, this all took about 20 hours and threw a wrench into the passengers’ travel plans. Naturally, the airline released a statement thanking the plane passengers for being understanding and its employees for their efforts.
