Flying on commercial airlines offers many conveniences. However, as most plane passengers know, several situations can arise that cause delays. Recently, while people were traveling internationally, a bomb threat caused a significant delay. Luckily, there was no bomb, and officials are investigating the recent string of hoaxes involving commercial airplanes.

There have been a number of bomb threats impacting plane passengers

Millions of plane passengers travel each year. Some travel internationally, whereas many others fly somewhere closer. However, they all have one thing in common: there’s always the chance of delays. According to Fox Business, this happened to an Air India flight recently as it was traveling from Delhi to Chicago.

The flight in question departed on October 14th, and it went well for the plane passengers for a while. However, someone called in a bomb threat, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing. Reports say the plane landed at Iqaluit International Airport in Iqaluit, Canada, before 6:00 a.m. the following day. This is a remote area of Canada, and Iqaluit happens to be the capital of the Nunavut territory.

A spokesperson from the airport confirmed that an “unspecified bomb threat from a person in India to Air India” delayed the plane and its passengers. Air India later confirmed the emergency landing on the X platform. The airline’s post reads, “Flight Al127, operating from Delhi to Chicago on October 15, 2024, was the subject of a security threat posted online and, as a precautionary measure, has landed at Iqaluit Airport in Canada.”

After landing at the Iqaluit International Airport, airline staff rescreened the plane passengers as they waited until they could resume their travel plans. Additionally, Air India has received several bomb threats recently. However, none of the threats have been legitimate. According to the airline, “Though all [threats] have subsequently been found to be hoaxes, as a responsible airline operator, all threats are taken seriously. The inconvenience to customers is sincerely regretted.”

Still, despite the bomb threats, Air India is a top choice for people flying to and from parts of the world where the airline has routes. This is in no way a reflection of the service the airline provides.
