This American Airlines flight made an abrupt landing after reports of smoke and a loud noise
Traveling by air is considered safe, as very few crashes happen annually. However, it’s easy for plane passengers to panic when things go wrong. This happened recently to a group of American Airlines passengers traveling on a Boeing aircraft, and the pilots were forced to make an emergency landing.
These plane passengers smelled an odor and thought the worst
According to ABC11, an American Airlines flight was recently carrying plane passengers to Connecticut. However, while en route, passengers and crew members alike began to smell the odor of smoke. Because of this, the very capable pilots decided to make an emergency landing. Naturally, because of the smell, the people on the flight began to panic, and some even tried to call loved ones.
Along with the smell of smoke, some plane passengers reported hearing a loud boom, which further caused people to fear for their safety. It was then that the pilot informed them of the emergency landing, which didn’t happen for a while. The American Airlines flight landed safely at the Raleigh-Durham airport. The maintenance crew then towed it to the gate for the plane passengers to deboard.
The Boeing aircraft was then taken to be inspected, and the plane passengers were given a new flight to travel to their destination. One of the passengers said, “It was an abrupt landing. They told us the fire brigade would be out there and stuff. A couple of minutes later, they said we were OK. That’s when I had a sigh of relief.”
Regarding the pilot’s decision to wait to tell passengers about the landing, ABC News Aviation Analyst John Nance said, “It’s a hard and fast rule that you fly the jet first and then talk to passengers.”
According to the report, the plane passengers applauded the pilot and the crew as they departed the aircraft. It’s still unclear what caused the smoke smell, but the pilots reportedly said it may have been an engine issue. American Airlines said the following:
“any information obtained at the scene is preliminary, unverified, and, at this point, speculation. The cause of the odor is still under investigation.”
